Services Offered by the BDC

General Business Advice - If you want to discuss a particular idea, need some information, or just wondering where to find some help with a business related problem the staff will do all they can to assist. Drop by for a chat!

Training - The BDC will run short workshops to cover topics such as Understanding Financial Statements, Bookkeeping, How to Start and Operate a Small Business, Income Taxes, Steps to Starting a Small Business, Business Planning, Marketing and Using Microsoft Excel & Word as they are needed. Financing - The Centre offers financing in the form of repayable loans. The limit is $200,000 and the maximum term is ten years. Interest rates vary (between 3 to 7 % above the CIBC's prime lending rate) and are dependent upon the risk associated with the project. Business Service Center - Besides trying to help with any problems you might run into, the Centre will also provide a place for you to do your own research. The Business Service Centre will have an internet connection for business use, forms needed for business start-up, a small library containing 'How-To' manuals and videos, brochures from other groups or agencies who assist small business, and software to develop various aspects of your business. It is a valuable source of information.

Monitoring & Aftercare - In addition to helping with the setup and establishment of businesses, the BDC will provide aftercare and monitoring services to all of its clients. It will include a review of the financial books, training needs and operations on a regular basis. By assisting the client with any problems that might arise in a timely manner, we hope to increase the chances of success.

Other Services - Other services include counseling, helping with the setup of various journals and books required for financial purposes, information on other government and non-government programs, trade show information, a bulletin board for businesses to advertise the services they offer small business and any other service that staff are qualified to offer and fits within the BDC's mandate.
